Derek Fahey is a patent attorney licensed to practice by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and focuses mainly on acquiring patents, trademarks and copyrights and protecting trade secrets. Derek is an active Rotarian and holds a leadership role at the Fort Lauderdale/Cypress Creek Chapter. Derek is also an active member of the South Florida Manufacturing Association. Derek immigrated to Florida from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad with his family in 1989. Derek graduated from Florida State University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and as member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Derek attended Law School at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he specialized in intellectual property, worked at the University of Florida Office of Technology Licensing and graduated on the Dean’s List. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Derek worked as a Senior Field Engineer in the energy sector for Schlumberger, an oilfield service company, in a variety of locations including: Hassi Massoud, Algeria; Northern Alberta, Canada; Pau, France; and Kellyville, Oklahoma. After working for Schlumberger, Derek returned to Florida and worked for Florida Power and Light (“FPL”) as an Engineering Project Manager. At FPL, Derek designed electrical distribution infrastructure for various types of construction and development projects. Derek’s clients range from startups and solo inventors to mid-size manufacturing companies, such as Neptune Research Inc., winner of the South Florida Manufacturing Association’s Manufacturer Of The Year Award. Derek’s mission statement is to provide high quality legal services to clients with excellent friendly customer service.
